A beautifully painted porcelain snuff bottle. Center medallions on both sides with polychrome paintings of groups of sages and officials, on one side shown conversing with one another, on the other reading a book, underglaze blue scroll designs bordering the medallions and on the sides. Coral stopper. Mark of the Qianlong period but probably later Ching. After Castiglioni, the well known Jesuit who worked in the courts of the Emperor QianLong and was particularly known for his miniature paintings.
