Ok-Kuet, imposing lacquer ceremonial vessel of Burma, used for centuries to carry gifts of food as offerings to the Buddhist monasteries. Made by applying numerous coats of lacquer, first black, then red, over thin strips of coiled bamboo. The finial is made of wood (probably teak), lacquered in this same, very time consuming way.
