Japanese Ukiyo-e (translated as “pictures of the floating world”), Chinese commercial advertising posters, gazette journals and lithographs compose our print collection. The Japanese prints collection dates from the early to late 1800s and includes items from Kunisada, Toyokuni, Yoshitoshi and others.

Also in our collection are women portrayed in posters who were considered the height of fashion in their time and many were popular actresses or singers. Often referred to as the “Shanghai Posters” these are now popular collector’s items, and although the medicines, cigarettes, and others items advertised are long gone, the Shanghai girls still live on in these vintage moments of a bygone era.
